FiNAN Finland

Since 2018, FiNAN Finland has served as the voice of Filipino Internationally Educated Nurses (FIENs) in Finland. We advocate for ethical recruitment, recognition of qualifications and credentialing pathways, career advancement, and policy influence. Our work is grounded in research and international standards, including the WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel.

Our Commitment

FiNAN Finland is dedicated to creating a fair, inclusive, and sustainable environment for Filipino nurses. We believe that migration should be ethical, transparent, and mutually beneficial—for nurses, employers, and the healthcare system.

Key Focus Areas

1. Ethical Recruitment

We champion recruitment practices that uphold human rights, professional dignity, and sustainability. Evidence from Cubelo’s doctoral research highlights the importance of structured migration models that prevent exploitation and ensure long-term retention of nurses in the Nordic region.

2. Recognition and Credentialing

Navigating the Finnish qualification system can be challenging for internationally educated nurses. FiNAN Finland works with different stakeholders to simplify and clarify credentialing pathways, advocating for transparent processes and bridging programs that align with EU standards.

3. Career Advancement

We support Filipino nurses in achieving professional growth through continuing education, specialization opportunities, and leadership development. Research shows that career progression improves retention and enhances healthcare quality.

4. Policy Engagement

FiNAN Finland actively participates in policy dialogues to influence reforms that promote integration, workforce sustainability, and mutual recognition agreements across Nordic countries.

Why Our Work Matters

Finland faces a critical nursing shortage, with projections indicating that 10% of the health workforce by 2030 will come from abroad. Ethical recruitment and structured integration are essential to address this challenge while safeguarding nurses' rights and well-being.
